USM Haller Fabric Panels & Fronts: Structural Doors on a Compatible Grid
A USM Haller–compatible fabric front is a structural door with a fabric face on a plywood core — not USM's magnetic Soft Panel. Here's how it works, how it's made to order, and how it mixes with metal, glass, wood and leather.

Looking for a USM Haller fabric panel or fabric front? Klackjoy makes a fabric-faced door that fits the genuine USM Haller ball-and-tube grid 1:1 — a structural replacement front, not a magnetic soft panel you clip onto the surface. It is the quietest, most textile face for a system that is otherwise all steel and chrome.
In short: Klackjoy builds USM Haller–compatible fabric fronts — doors and drawer fronts with a fabric face on a plywood core, the same construction as our wood and leather fronts. This is a genuine structural front (left-hinged, right-hinged, and push-to-open double doors), and it is a different product from USM's own magnetic Soft Panel accessory. It mounts on the same 25 mm chrome ball (M8) grid as USM Haller, mixes 1:1 with metal, glass, wood and leather fronts, costs around 60–70% less, and carries a 10-year structural warranty. Fabric fronts are made to order: we're expanding a range of classic fabrics, and you can request a bespoke fabric for your project. Get in touch to specify one for your build.
Why a fabric front on a metal system
USM Haller is defined by powder-coated steel and chrome — precise, but relentlessly hard-surfaced. A fabric front changes the character of the whole piece: it softens an all-metal shelving wall, warms a sideboard, and gives an office credenza a quieter, more textile face. Fabric absorbs where metal reflects, so a run of fabric fronts reads as calmer and more residential — the same grid, a completely different mood.
Fabric works especially well where a space doubles between home and work: a home-office credenza, a bedroom cabinet, a living-room storage wall you want to feel like furniture rather than filing.
Structural fabric front vs. USM's Soft Panel
Here is the distinction that matters most, because the phrase people search for — USM soft panel — is a specific USM product, and it is not a cabinet door.
USM's own Soft Panel is a magnetic, upholstered accessory: a soft, textile-faced panel that attaches magnetically to a surface, used to give a piece a softer face. It is USM's product and it does its job well — but it is an add-on that clips on, not the door itself.
Klackjoy makes something different: a structural fabric front — the door or drawer front itself, built on a plywood core, that hangs on the frame like any other USM front.
| Klackjoy structural fabric front | USM Soft Panel (magnetic accessory) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A door or drawer front — plywood core with a fabric face | A magnetic, upholstered soft panel |
| Made by | Klackjoy (USM-compatible) | USM |
| Where it goes | Replaces the front on the grid | Attaches magnetically to a surface |
| Attachment | Mounts on the 25 mm chrome ball (M8), like any USM front | Magnets onto the surface; removable |
| Structural? | Yes — it is the door | No — a soft face added on top |
| Best for | Building or refacing a unit with fabric doors | Adding a soft, textile accent to a surface |
Neither is "better" in the abstract — they solve different problems. If you want a removable soft panel to clip onto a piece, USM's Soft Panel is the right tool. If you want the door to be fabric, that is what Klackjoy builds.
How a fabric front is built
Klackjoy fabric fronts share the construction of our wood and leather fronts: a stable plywood core with a fabric face bonded to it. The core is what makes it a real door — flat, rigid and hung on the grid — while the fabric gives it its soft, textile surface.
Because it is built like every other Klackjoy front, a fabric door behaves like one: it swings, aligns and mounts exactly as a metal or wood door does, and it shares the same edges and thickness so it sits flush in a mixed unit.
Made-to-order and bespoke fabric
Fabric fronts are made to order rather than picked from a stocked swatch card. We're expanding a range of classic fabrics — quiet, durable textiles chosen to work across living, bedroom and office settings — and because every unit is built to order, you can also request a bespoke fabric: if you have a specific tone or texture in mind for a project, we'll specify it as part of your custom build.
We would rather be honest about the range than invent one. Today that means a growing set of classic fabrics plus bespoke on request — so the best way to pin down a fabric is to tell us what you're after and we'll confirm what's possible for your piece.
Door types and drawer fronts
You can specify fabric in the opening formats the system uses:
- Left-hinged and right-hinged doors — a single fabric front swinging from either side.
- Double door — two fabric fronts meeting in the middle, push-to-open with no handle, so the fabric face stays clean and unbroken.
- Fabric drawer front — a fabric face on the standard drawer body, for a soft, flush front.
You specify the fabric format per panel as part of your order, so fabric can share a single unit with metal, glass, wood and leather.
Mixing fabric with metal, glass and wood
A Klackjoy fabric front is one material among several, and they all live on the same grid. You can run fabric doors beside wood veneer fronts, set them against glass doors, pair them with leather fronts, or place a single fabric accent in an otherwise powder-coated piece. For the full range of front materials and finishes, see our custom panels guide.
Adding fabric to your existing USM Haller
Everything Klackjoy builds is physically compatible with genuine USM Haller, 1:1. Fabric fronts mount on the same 25 mm chrome-plated brass ball with an M8 thread, and the frame uses the same standard tube lengths — 100, 150, 175, 250, 350, 395, 500, 595 and 750 mm — as the original system.
So you do not need a whole new unit to add fabric. You can fit Klackjoy fabric fronts to a USM Haller piece you already own, or build a compatible new unit beside it. If you are reworking an existing piece, see reconfiguring USM Haller.
Caring for a fabric front
A fabric front asks for a little more care than a wipe-clean metal door, in the way any textile surface does. Keep it free of dust with a soft brush or the upholstery attachment of a vacuum, and treat the occasional mark gently rather than soaking it. Keeping it out of prolonged direct sunlight, as with any furniture surface, helps the colour stay even over the years.
How to order a fabric front
Start the way you would with any Klackjoy piece: open the 3D configurator and build your frame from standard tubes to price and plan the unit. Because fabric fronts are made to order, you then get in touch to add them to your build — telling us which doors or drawers you want in fabric and which classic or bespoke fabric you're after. A finished fabric-fronted unit typically costs around 60–70% less than the equivalent genuine USM configuration, with a 10-year structural warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Klackjoy fabric panel the same as the USM Soft Panel?
No — they are different products. USM's Soft Panel is a magnetic, upholstered accessory that clips onto a surface to give it a softer, textile face. A Klackjoy fabric front is the door itself: a structural front on a plywood core that mounts on the grid like any other USM door. One is an add-on you attach; the other replaces the front.
Will a fabric front fit my existing USM Haller?
Yes — Klackjoy fabric fronts are physically compatible with genuine USM Haller 1:1. They use the same 25 mm chrome-plated brass ball with M8 thread and the same standard tube lengths (100–750 mm), so you can add fabric fronts to a unit you already own or build a compatible new one beside it.
What fabric colours and finishes are available?
Fabric fronts are made to order. We're expanding a range of classic fabrics, and you can also request a bespoke fabric — if you have a specific tone or texture in mind for a project, we'll specify it as part of your custom build. Get in touch and we'll confirm what's possible for your piece.
Can I mix fabric doors with metal, glass, wood and leather?
Yes. Every front is chosen per panel in the configurator, so a single unit can carry fabric, metal, glass, wood and leather fronts together — a run of fabric fronts over a metal body, or one fabric accent door in an otherwise powder-coated piece.
How do I clean a fabric front?
Keep it free of dust with a soft brush or the upholstery attachment of a vacuum, and blot the occasional mark gently rather than soaking it. As with any furniture surface, keeping it out of prolonged direct sunlight helps the colour stay even over time.
