How should I plan record bays without assuming a universal LP capacity?

Start with the records you actually own, including their protective packaging. A “12-inch record” names the disc format, not a guaranteed outside dimension for every jacket, sleeve or box set. Measure your tallest and deepest packaged items, and keep ordinary single albums, gatefolds and box sets as separate groups.

Standard tube sizes describe nominal planning spans. A 350 mm nominal row or depth is not itself a certified clear opening of 330–335 mm, a guaranteed fit for every sleeve, or a shelf-load rating. Review the complete panel and front arrangement, then check the usable height and depth. Do not assume that a tube length equals internal storage space.

The Library of Congress storage guidance recommends upright disc storage, shelving able to support concentrated weight, and sturdy, immovable dividers supporting discs in their sleeves. That is preservation guidance, not proof that a particular Klackjoy shelf meets a load specification or that dividers are included. Confirm any divider and its fitting for the actual bay.

Record count depends on collection thickness and packaging. A measured group can help estimate occupied width, but label that estimate for that group, not as a universal count per bay. Keep browsing and divider space in the plan. Consider mass separately: fitting geometrically does not establish a permitted load. Add the measured contents of the proposed bays rather than repeating a generic collection-weight claim.

Measure the turntable's support footprint and the space for its lid to open, and follow its manufacturer's installation instructions. A steel frame, a larger nominal depth or a level-looking rendering does not prove vibration isolation or a level physical installation.

Use the existing configurator to record a supported layout and panel choices. A two-column, two-row sideboard entry is a starting point, not an LP-capacity certificate. Confirm the actual panels, supports, instructions and permitted load before placing a dense collection. If those specifications are unavailable, leave loading unresolved rather than assigning a number from another model or brand.

Use layout entries as planning examples, not finished dimensions

A two-column, two-row sideboard entry is a way to start inspecting a layout, not a measured promise of a 1500 by 350 by 700 mm finished cabinet. Identify the actual selected axis spans, panels, fronts, base and installed outside dimensions. For width, depth and height definitions, use the dimensions guide.

For a longer low unit, check the actual bays and supports rather than multiplying a nominal width and calling the result a finished cabinet. A “three by one” label does not tell you the base height, usable opening or capacity of the completed build. This guide does not replace the selected configuration's drawing with another generic size table.

Turntable footprint and lid movement come before accessories

Record the equipment maker and model, the location of its support feet, the body and accessory footprint, and the complete lid or dust-cover movement. Follow its requirements for a level support, ventilation and access. A wide-looking top does not guarantee room for a turntable, amplifier, phono stage and display stand together.

Separate mechanical fit from vibration behavior. A steel frame, a screen rendering or a nominal depth cannot prove isolation from a loudspeaker, walking floor or motor. Any required support or isolation accessory must be selected and used according to its own instructions; this page supplies no test result or guaranteed acoustic improvement.

Open record bays and closed equipment bays have different checks

Upright records need the actual opening, dividers and browsing space described above. A closed equipment bay also needs the equipment's connections, ventilation and service access. A perforated panel or door is not proof that every amplifier or power supply will remain within its operating conditions. Use the cable-routing guide for the actual plugs and selected panels.

A divider is not automatically supplied because preservation guidance recommends one. Confirm its material, fitting and support for the intended bay. Likewise, fitting albums geometrically does not establish their permitted mass. Ask for the load information matched to the actual panels, supports and assembled arrangement; leave the loading decision unresolved if it is unavailable.

Configuration, finish and cost record

Use the offered frame spans and actual panel options rather than assuming arbitrary finished sizes or a universal palette. Record the selected material, finish, sample and component availability. A color label or screen image does not guarantee a match to another manufacturer or an aged part.

Verify the actual opening and retrieval path, dense-record load, shelf supports, feet and site floor limits rather than assuming capacity without evidence. Check the selected turntable and open dust-cover envelope. A steel top or proposed isolation pad does not promise vibration isolation or acoustic performance. Amplifier/phono-stage ventilation and power/signal routing need the actual equipment instructions; this sheet gives no universal gap, hum-free outcome, thermal approval or permission to alter protective earth.
