USM Haller Leather Panels & Fronts: Microfiber Leather on a Compatible Grid

Klackjoy makes USM Haller–compatible leather doors, drawer fronts and panels — microfiber leather on a plywood core, a structural front, not a magnetic pad. 12 finishes, 1:1 fit with genuine USM Haller, at 60–70% less.

Looking for a USM Haller leather panel or leather front? Klackjoy makes a microfiber-leather door that fits the genuine USM Haller ball-and-tube grid 1:1 — a structural replacement front, not a magnetic pad you lay on top. This is the softer, warmer face for a system that is otherwise all steel and chrome.

In short: Klackjoy builds USM Haller–compatible microfiber leather doors and drawer fronts on a plywood core — a genuine structural front (left-open, right-open, and push-to-open double doors), offered in 12 microfiber leather finishes. Unlike the magnetic leather overlays and desk pads sold elsewhere, this is the front itself: it mounts on the same 25 mm chrome ball (M8) grid as USM Haller, mixes 1:1 with metal, glass and wood doors, costs around 60–70% less, and carries a 10-year structural warranty. Design one in the live 3D configurator.

Why a leather front on a metal system

USM Haller is defined by powder-coated steel and chrome — precise, but relentlessly hard-surfaced. A leather front changes the character of the whole piece: it softens an all-metal shelving wall in a living room, warms a sideboard, and gives an office credenza a quieter, more tactile face. Where a metal door reads as industrial, a leather front reads as considered and residential — the same grid, a completely different mood.

Leather works especially well in bedrooms and studies, where the touch of the surface matters as much as the look, and on the doors you actually reach for every day.

Structural leather front vs. magnetic overlay

Here is the distinction that matters most, because almost everything sold as "USM leather" online is not a door at all. Most leather products for USM Haller are magnetic overlays — a sheet of leather with magnets that lies on a table top or clings to the face of an existing metal door. Makers like Leather on Top, and other overlay specialists, do this well, and it is a genuine option if you want to dress a surface you already own.

Klackjoy makes something different: a structural leather front — the door itself, built on a plywood core, that hangs on the frame like any other USM front.

Neither is "better" in the abstract — they solve different problems. If you want a removable pad for a desk top, an overlay is the right tool. If you want the door to be leather, that is what Klackjoy builds.

What microfiber leather is — and why we use it

Klackjoy leather fronts are faced in microfiber leather: an engineered, man-made leather, not animal hide. We are deliberate about this because it is the honest answer and, for a cabinet front, the better material.

Microfiber leather gives a consistent grain and colour across a whole run of doors — no natural blemishes or dye lots to match — and it stands up to daily handling on the doors you open most. It also skips the upkeep of natural hide: no conditioning, no oiling, no worrying about a splash of water. You wipe it clean and move on. For a piece of storage furniture that earns its place by being used, that trade is the right one.

We do not claim it is genuine hide, and we would not: it is a microfiber leather chosen for durability, consistency and easy care.

12 microfiber leather finishes

Leather fronts come in 12 microfiber leather finishes, spanning warm neutrals through to deeper tones, so you can match a leather door to a room rather than to the metal palette. Because each unit is made to order, you choose the finish per panel as you build — a single leather accent door in an otherwise metal piece, or a full run of leather fronts across a sideboard. You can see and assign every finish in the 3D configurator.

Door types and drawer fronts

You can specify leather in every opening format the system uses:

Each is chosen per panel in the configurator, so leather, metal, glass and wood can share a single unit.

Mixing leather with metal, glass and wood

A Klackjoy leather front is one material among several, and they all live on the same grid. You can run leather doors beside wood veneer fronts, set them against glass doors, or place a single leather accent in an otherwise powder-coated piece. For the full range of front materials and finishes, see our custom panels guide.

Adding leather to your existing USM Haller

Everything Klackjoy builds is physically compatible with genuine USM Haller, 1:1. Leather fronts mount on the same 25 mm chrome-plated brass ball with an M8 thread, and the frame uses the same standard tube lengths — 100, 150, 175, 250, 350, 395, 500, 595 and 750 mm — as the original system.

So you do not need a whole new unit to add leather. You can fit Klackjoy leather fronts to a USM Haller piece you already own, or build a compatible new unit beside it. For how the parts interchange, see our guide to compatible parts; if you are reworking an existing piece, see reconfiguring USM Haller.

Caring for a leather front

Microfiber leather is low-maintenance by design. Wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth to keep it clean; unlike natural hide it does not need conditioning or oiling, and it takes daily handling in its stride. Keeping it out of prolonged direct sunlight, as with any furniture surface, helps the colour stay even over the years.

How to order a leather front

You design a leather-fronted unit the same way you design any Klackjoy piece: open the live 3D configurator, build your frame from standard tubes, and assign a leather finish to each door or drawer you want in leather. The price updates live as you build, and a finished leather-fronted unit typically costs around 60–70% less than the equivalent genuine USM configuration, with a 10-year structural warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Klackjoy leather panel real leather?

It is microfiber leather — an engineered, man-made leather, not animal hide. We use it deliberately: it gives a consistent grain and colour across a run of doors, stands up to daily handling, and needs none of the conditioning that natural hide does. For a cabinet front that gets used every day, it is the more practical and durable choice.

How is this different from a magnetic leather overlay or desk pad?

A magnetic overlay is a sheet of leather that lies on a table top or clings to an existing metal door — a removable cover over what you already own. A Klackjoy leather front is the door itself: a structural front on a plywood core that mounts on the grid like any other USM door. One dresses a surface; the other replaces it.

Will a leather front fit my existing USM Haller?

Yes — Klackjoy leather fronts are physically compatible with genuine USM Haller 1:1. They use the same 25 mm chrome-plated brass ball with M8 thread and the same standard tube lengths (100–750 mm), so you can add leather fronts to a unit you already own or build a compatible new one beside it.

Can I mix leather doors with metal, glass and wood?

Yes. Every front is chosen per panel in the configurator, so a single unit can carry leather, metal, glass and wood doors together — a run of leather fronts over a metal body, or one leather accent door in an otherwise powder-coated piece.

How do I clean a microfiber leather front?

Wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Unlike natural hide, microfiber leather needs no conditioning or oiling, and it handles daily use well. Keeping it out of prolonged direct sunlight helps the colour stay even over time.
